Tools to play around

What can go wrong

  • Hymn of ValorPractise the hit area and target conditions first. Do not spend the rest of your rotation automatically when the opening damage misses.
  • Aria of PerseveranceMatch the protective effect to the moment damage arrives. Read who it protects and how long it lasts before relying on it.
  • A completed combo is only useful when your position, resources and follow-up are safe.

Abilities & tips

Open an ability to read its effect and a practical use tip.

PPower Chord

Accelerando: Sona gains non-Ultimate ability haste permanently for her basic abilities as she uses her abilities well, up to a cap. Beyond that cap, further successful uses reduce her ultimate's remaining cooldown instead. Power Chord: Every few spell casts, Sona's next attack will deal bonus magic damage in addition to an additional effect based on what basic Ability Sona last activated.

Use it well

Watch the activation condition and attack timing. Practise the empowered action separately so it is not lost during a rushed sequence.

QHymn of Valor

Sona plays the Hymn of Valor, sends out bolts of sound, dealing magic damage to two nearby enemies, prioritizing champions and monsters. Sona gains a temporary aura that grants allies tagged by the zone bonus damage on their next attack against enemies.

Use it well

WAria of Perseverance

Sona plays the Aria of Perseverance, sending out protective melodies, healing Sona and a nearby wounded ally. Sona gains a temporary aura that grants allies tagged by the zone a temporary shield.

Use it well

Match the protective effect to the moment damage arrives. Read who it protects and how long it lasts before relying on it.

ESong of Celerity

Sona plays the Song of Celerity, granting nearby allies bonus Move Speed. Sona gains a temporary aura that grants allied champions tagged by the zone bonus Move Speed.

Use it well

Read the effect and its conditions, then practise it alone. Build your sequence around the effect you can reliably reproduce.

RCrescendo

Sona plays her ultimate chord, stunning enemy champions and forcing them to dance and dealing magic damage to them.

Use it well

Use this control to create a follow-up window. Check the target’s defensive spells and your teammates’ range before committing.

Sona combos: execution and timing

AA = basic attack · EAA = empowered attack · 1/2/3 = cast stage. Follow the order, not instant key presses.

Follow up with Song of Celerity

  1. Song of CelerityE
  2. Hymn of ValorQ
  3. EAA

With Sona, start with Song of Celerity, then continue through Hymn of Valor → Empowered attack. Read the resource or charge indicator for Power Chord before starting. Compare this sequence with and without the required preparation.

Mistake to avoid : Do not assume the same damage, control or follow-up when the required indicator is missing.

Game plan by role

Sona · Support
Early game

Stand where you can help your lane partner without exposing both of you. Coordinate the opening before spending your main control or protection.

Mid game

Set up vision with nearby allies rather than walking into unlit areas alone. Roam when your lane partner can safely handle the next wave.

Teamfights

Choose between creating an opening and protecting the teammate who can carry the fight. Do not spend every defensive spell on the first visible enemy.

Before your next fight, check: Hymn of Valor · Crescendo · Combos

06

Matchup preparation

Compare opponents in the build for the role you are actually playing. Then check their key control, escape and defensive spells before choosing your trade.

07

Practice checklist

  1. Cast each ability alone and identify its range, target conditions and stopping point.
  2. Practise the first sequence slowly. Repeat it while moving, without skipping the conditions shown on its card.
  3. After each attempt, identify the spell you would still have available to defend or retreat.
